 Theory of intelligence

What is intelligence?

The word intelligence is derived from the word "intelligentia" which means "to understand". It is defined as the ability to perceive and retain the knowledge. Intelligence has been defined in many ways in terms of logic, understanding, self aware, learning, creativity etc. Many psychologists talked about the theory of intelligence like Spearmen, Thurstone, Gardner, Sternberg. Today we will discuss about "TRIARCHIC THEORY OF INTELLIGENCE" . In 1985 Robert Sternberg proposed theory. It is called TRIARCHIC theory because he talks about intelligence in three aspects .

Kinds of intelligence?

The three aspects are:

  • PRACTICAL INTELLIGENCE
  • CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE
  • ANALYTICAL INTELLIGENCE

1) Practical intelligence : in this type sternberg talk about ability of a person to interact with everyday world successfully. it is also called "contexual intelligence". Such people deal with everyday task which is related to the world. it is one's ability to adapt to a changing environment.

2) Creative intelligence: it the your ability to come up with new ideas. it is also named "experiential intelligence". An individual is confronted with many unfamiliar task and they come up with a way. The individual basically adapt in unique situation.

3) Analytical intelligence: the people having this type of intelligence can compare, evaluate and analyse things. Such people become a researcher. The individual has the ability to evaluate information to solve problems. The analytical intelligence is related to "componential intelligence".

Sternberg observed that all these three kinds of intelligence are necessary for successful intelligence. Now you all think what type you fall in?
